I am writing this blog post where it all started about a year ago; Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. This year has been one big adventure with twists and turns. At Nielsen here in KL I did my graduation project, and after 4 months of struggling and writing and of course plentiful of good times I arrived back in The Netherlands. After getting printing done the wait had started for doing my....

final defense presentation.
When it comes to presenting I know what to do, and on top of that I was confident with my thesis. So I walked relaxed into my presentation and came out happy as I had graduated with a solid 9.

Now that challenge was behind me I couldn't allow myself to rest. The next real challenge awaited me which is finding a job. Especially as I had met a special girl in Malaysia named Jun-Yi. After me trying to find work in Malaysia we realized it would probably be easier for both of us to live and work in The Netherlands. For that to happen I first needed to get a steady job.

Even before graduating I started looking for jobs. At first I tried finding a job here in Malaysia but fresh graduate salaries are very, very low. It would be too much of a step down.
So after getting back, I surfed the web day and night finding as many companies as possible. Weeks on end during june, july and august I called and called. The results were bad, real bad. Not only were it holiday times, the economic recession was at full force and a lot of companies had just fired, or were struggling not to fire people.

Jun-Yi came over in july for moral support and would be staying until october. This was welcome distraction as I started to worry more and more. Luckily by the time september came, at which point I was getting really nervous, three viable possibilities came up. The first possibility was MERX, a company I got to know attending other students their graduation presentations. The other two I met at the graduation exhibition at the uni.

During the months up to september I had several meetings and finally at the end of august I got a call that I could come for the final talk with MERX on the 2nd of september, and if all would go well it would be my starting day. The talk went well, very well, and since september I have been working there as a project manager/online producer.
Jun-Yi actually joined in with the working fun as well at the end of september and start of october and worked on a freelance basis for three weeks on designing a publication.

Now in november and december Jun-Yi and I have worked hard on immigration stuff. She had to do the "inburgering" where they test your Dutch language and culture knowledge. She passed with flying colors but not after much troubles with the embassy and all sorts of technical failures. You can read more about that on her blog.

About three weeks ago, the day before flying to Malaysia, I actually managed to send in all the forms to process the application. Now the past few weeks I have been celebrating christmas here in Malaysia with Jun-Yi and her family.

Later today we will be facing traffic on our way to K.L. LIVE. in central Kuala Lumpur. There, accompanied with music by The Bloody Beetroots and LapSap we will welcome in 2010.

So to all my readers, I wish you a Happy New Year!

And upcoming in the new year:
- A new business card
- A new updated showreel
And hopefully more blog updates.
